Welcome to the 2008 UFCW 1116-ARGA Negotiations Information Portal!

Attention:

With the ratification of the new contract, all part-time employees currently covered under the contract must work an average of  18 hours a week to be eligible for health benefits. You will be guaranteed an 18 hour schedule. An employee’s “compensated time” must average 18 hours per benefit contribution period (4 or 5 weeks) to maintain eligibility. “Compensated time ” includes not only hours actually worked but also paid vacation hours, paid personal holiday hours, paid funeral leave, etc.

If you choose not to work an average of 18 hours per benefit contribution period, you will not be eligible for health benefits!

If you have any questions, please contact Dan or Steve at 218-728-5174.

VOTE TALLIES:

UPDATES
  • March 18-19, 2008: The two sides met and the Employer received the Union's proposal.
Union Grocery Proposal Union Meat Proposal

It is expected that the Union will receive the Employer's Proposal on April 1, 2008.

  • April 1-2, 2008: The two sides met and exchanged proposals and discussed where things should go from here. The afternoon was spent with both sides working on revamping and revising their proposals.
  • April 7-8, 2008: The two sides met and exchanged revamped and revised proposals. The two sides then reviewed the other side's proposal. Language was written and several pieces were agreed upon by both sides. Economic issues are yet to come.
  • April 14-18, 2008: No negotiations were held during this week.
  • April 21-22, 2008: Negotiations were heated, with both sides going back and forth across the table on many issues. On Friday, April 25, 2008 we will be trying to finish the non-economic issues so that next week, we can move into economics. Your contract officially expires this Saturday and both parties have that they see no reason why they would not sign extensions of your current agreement in order to reach a settlement that we can present favorably to you, the members.

UNION RESPONSE TO EMPLOYERS' MODIFIED PROPOSALS

  • April 25, 2008: The day was spent writing language. Language written included "Acts of God" language, not working successive holidays and/or Sundays, extension of probationary periods, health insurance contributions and much more! There were several issues withdrawn on both sides and at the end of the day, although both sides were tired, much was accomplished. Thank you to both sides for all your hard work today!
  • May 16, 2008: After a long hiatus, the committee got back together today to talk about economics. The Employer responded to our economic proposal with some proposals of their own and the Union is taking a look at the numbers provided by the Employer. It was a frank and productive meeting that left both sides feeling that there was movement towards a proposal that would be fair. The two sides are set to meet again on the 27th of May.
  • May 27, 2008: The two sides met and once again exchanged proposals. Although the process seems tedious, process is slowly being made. When it gets slow like this, it's hard to keep in mind that the Union is working for all of you and wants to make the fairest deal possible on all of your behalf. It's important that you keep in touch with your stewards and your representatives and know what's happening.
  • June 12, 2008: After many meetings, ARGA and your Union, UFCW Local 1116, have reached a tentative agreement to be considered by you and your fellow members in the near future. Below you will find a sign-off statement from each person on the Negotiation Committee indicating that we had unanimous support of the agreement:

Between now and the ratification meeting, we will be preparing a detailed handout of all of the changes which there are many of so that you will have full understanding of what you will be voting on. We will also be working on a summary of those changes for presentation on or before the ratification meetings.

The last two meetings with the Employer were very productive as I think you will agree when you see the total package. Please be patient and give the staff of your local union time to put everything together. The notices of your opportunity for voting will be coming shortly.

Sincerely,

The Staff of your Local Union
