Steve Gilbertson

Steve Gilbertson was born in Red Wing, MN in the 1950’s. He moved to California in 1962, where he worked in the tomato fields and grocery stores while growing up. In the Fall of 1971 he moved back to Wisconsin and worked at the S.B. Foot Tanning Company in Red Wing until June of 1987. S.B. Foot Tanning was a Unionized leather facility represented by UFCW Local #335.

In the late seventies, he became very active in the Union and became the Secretary-Treasurer. In June of 1987 he accepted a Full Time Union Representative position with UFCW Local #789, in St. Paul, MN. He worked as a Representative in various areas of employment including Nursing Homes, Grocery Stores and Manufacturing. In 2000 he applied for and was accepted as a Representative in the UFCW Local #1116 office in Duluth.

In June of 2005 he was named the President of Local #1116, and remains so as of this date. He is a firm believer in Labor Management Committees, and supports Solution- Based Negotiations and Problem Solving.
